North Shore, Oahu – Hawaii’s Heaven

north_shoreThere could hardly be a surfer in the world who doesn’t know about Hawaiian surfing and especially the North Shore of Oahu. It is perhaps the dream haven of avid surfers and the coastline of North Shore which stretches for more than 7 miles is the most famous one among those acute enthusiasts of surfing and water sports.

Swells caused by oceanic storms traverse long across the northern Pacific, they hit the big time thrashing the reef breaks and approach the pristine beaches off the North Shore. Each winter brings some of the giant ocean waves that are not often found anywhere else on the planet and so it brings the throngs of savvy surfers too. The tubular, gnarly, highest and straight waves range from 2 feet to sometimes even more than 25 feet height. What other than these can be termed as perfect waves? Probably nothing!

It’s as obvious as nose on one’s face that such great and smooth waves need nothing more to draw considerable grommet’s multitude and to cater those passionate surfers, North Shore successfully hosts several competitions.

To name a few they have- The Triple Crown of Surfing, Reef Hawaiian Pro, the O'Neill World Cup of Surfing, and the Billabong Pipeline Masters. The charisma of this blessed environment didn’t fail to attend the world-debut in movies like Blue Crush, Forgetting Sarah Marshall and some other TV shows and animated films. North Shore also boasts to have some world famous beaches and surf spots. Waimea Bay, Sunset Beach and the Banzai Pipeline can be named in this regard. But for beginners Puaena Point and Chun’s Reef are some best sites to experience treasured rides.

The best time to visit North Shore is from November to February. Though the winter swells bestow ideal breaks to surf, it’s better to heed the signs. Since these massive waves some time or the other puff up to 30-35 feet they turn out to be dangerous for even veteran surfers. That’s the reason why winter season is not recommended for beginners. Such novice surfers make their surf-trip to North Shore usually during summer season (starting from May going up till September) that offers some of the best waves and surfing conditions. Consequently, the North Shore remains busy with surfers and spectators all year round.
