indonesiaThe classic waves, warm waters with excellent visibility and un-crowded beaches, all these come in a package when you are at Mentawai Islands. Mentawai Islands comprise 4 major islands named as Siberut, Sipora, North Pagi, South Pagi (from north to south) and just about 70 more islets dotted around these.

Mentawai Islands are no longer a well kept secret and world knows it for the consistent surf conditions that can be found there all year round. The best time to catch glassy waves is March to October. However the peak season is believed to be experienced during June to September when grommets easily get some huge swells to ride on.

This is the same period when the larger swells produced by the South Indian Ocean ranges from 4 feet to even more than 10-12 feet high. Even not counting the season, you can find waves, by and large, never lower than 3 feet to 4 feet all through the times and that is what makes it a best place to surf at whatever time you visit.

Though the Mentawai islands are rather a new-fangled surfing paradise with dozens of named surf breaks, it houses many more anonymous and so the unexplored breaks there. Lance's Left, Lance's Right, Bankvaults and Macaronis are some renewed surf spots among savvy-surfers. If you are a want-to-be surfer or have little onboard experience Gilligan's is just the right break to get a break.

Boats and charters are the only way to get to this friendly, welcoming and dream surf destination of Mentawai Islands. People also take boats between surf breaks. No matter what you are looking for, from novice surfers to those who wish to ride milling double-overhead monster waves, Mentawai has all for anyone and everyone.
