The Endless Summer

the_endless_summerAptly named as ‘The Endless Summer’, it’s a documentary film that follows Mike Hynson and Robert August when they travel across the world in quest of so-called perfect wave. Bruce Brown had directed this renowned surf-movie in 1966. When it is not right time to surf on your home-pitch waves and you have ample of bucks doing nothing in your wallet, it’s not bad idea to explore other coasts with good surfing conditions. And this is what the entire film lies around.

Both the watermen find cold ocean currents are making beaches in California hostile as the winter hits. They pack the bags and obviously the surfboards. They hit the road travelling across the different continents and exploring untouched waters of Africa, to those with presence of the great sharks along the coast of Australia and to the tropical heaven of Tahiti. New Zealand, and of course, Hawaii are not missed by those Californian surfers.

They follow summer travelling all across the places and so it attests the name, ‘The Endless Summer”.

The most appealing piece is the one wherein they edify locals on what surfing is all about. The film boasts of the appearance of some the then most renowned surfers including Miki Dora, Phil Edwards, Eugene Harris and Butch Van Artsdalen.

This film is believed to be one of the initial creations that helped spiraling an all amazing lifestyle called ‘surf-and-travel’ which has finding intact beaches and meeting new mates included in it. And consequently, surfing became more popular worldwide. It is viewed as an enduring work of genius that encourages even coming generations of avid surfers.

This discovery is been honored in 2002 by the Library of Congress and being a momentous creation in terms of cultural and historical value, it featured to be preserved in the United States’ National Film Registry.
