Based on an article titled ‘Life's Swell’ which was published in an American magazine, Outside, Blue Crush trails a young girl and her two mates. Being surfers, every one of them are equally obsessive about a dream to conquer heavenly waves of Hawaii's celebrated North Shore. Despite of her passion for surfing, Anne Marie works in a resort to raise her 14 year old sister Penny.

The film depicts the journey of this avid female surfer from a maidservant to member of Billabong women's surf team.

Kate Bosworth can be seen in the cast of Anne Marie who has two best friends named Eden and Lena that are played by Michelle Rodriguez and Sanoe Lake respectively. Further starring includes Mika Boorem who is in role of Penny and Matthew Davis in the cast of Matt Tollman. Altogether, stylishly they hit the screen to deliver sights of some great rides and also blend the story with little romance.

Anne’s mother abandons these juvenile sisters and flies to Las Vegas with her boyfriend. Anne is left with no other option than to look after her younger sister Penny, so the movie portrays its first segment wherein Anne, Eden and Lena work as maids at quite a renowned resort to nurse Penny and her schooling. Anne was once a famed surfer, but a deadly wipeout frightened her causing a halt for short span. The sentimental-block kind of family circumstances too, holds Anne back from her dream to surf for Pipe Masters, but Anne can be seen fighting with every such obstacle. She wakes up early in the morning everyday and continues training for her comeback in surfing.

While working at the resort, she encounters with Matt, a pro quarterback who finds himself falling for her and so Anne for him. Here the tragedy begins for Anne. She got stuck amid her dream of Pipe-masters and no one else but her man of dream. They spend some time together and Anne teaches Matt how to surf. Few men from Anne’s surfing community go up against her acceptance of strange chap and even Eden points at Anne’s distraction from Pipe-masters’ training. Soon she gets back focusing on Pipeline contest. Movie now has some engaging footage to show wherein Anne performs her best in the contest and at last she successfully draws attention of a sponsor who offers her to join Billabong women's surf team.
