Long boards are generally about 8 ft to 10.5 ft long. The boards are super buoyant and can take anyone onboard, of any skill level and any size. These boards normally have one or three fins. When a long board is held and made to stand besides a person, it looks nearly twice the size of the person. People use longboards by taking them out to the big waves. Many stand on the center of these boards and use the back foot and body weight to maneuver these beauties. The surfer then walks on the board while surfing and comes to the nose. He then slides the forward foot to make just his toes go over the nose. This is classic stunt that most Longboard surfers like to pull off as it makes a person feel like they are standing on the water surface. Longboards are used by novices and professionals alike. The professionals like to use it because it gives you the classic surfing experience and the novices use it because, the longboard in stable in the water and people are less likely to fall off, which builds the beginners confidence into standing on the board. Longboards are even easy to paddle by hand and take out into the waves, thus making it ideal for beginners. Also being a big board it only makes it easier to catch waves of all sizes. |
